ILHABELA 1

…been a while since my last post….well, what’s the best excuse not to pursue the things you love? – “…..been busy” – the accepted, overused, over-emphasized phrase of our time….
in my case there’s a bit of truth in that….after a few short trips here in South America, my stay this time is a little longer. i did not bring any painting tools with me, so i guess i’ll just record the images in my mind and into my faithful digital cam. and one day, i’ll put into paper the abstract impressions of my time here in these fascinating places.
one thing that will accompany these abstracts will be the thoughts of my fave philosopher HDT – “let us consider the way we spend our lives”. the kinda question that haunt me nowadays….

Continuing with my playfull doddling with watercolor on yupo paper, I came up with this “My House” and “My Neighbors” series.
These are some of my favorite non-objective paintings. They are not necessarily my best works, but for the reason that I have learned something from them.

Lately Ive been experimenting with watercolor on yupo paper. It is a tricky medium since it’s a synthetic plastic and not a paper. So as you might guess, the paints does not get absorb and most of the time I end up chasing the pigments all over the surface. One advantage with yupo is that you can wash away the colors if it does not turn out the way you want it. And as you might guess again, that is what I’ve been doing more than half of the time. I think with all the pigments I wasted , I could probably paint our bedroom by now.
The next seven paintings are the lucky ones that got away from the power hose!
